We all know the dreaded feeling when you’re coming to a close on your amazing trip/vacation and it’s time to board the plane or load the car/train. Not only are you feeling blue because you have to go home…or wait, is that just me? Hahaha, I wish I could travel forever! BUT along with the feelings of dread and reality comes…”WHOOOOPS I forgot to purchase travel souvenirs!”
M and I truly only get souvenirs for our loved ones if we travel somewhere where they haven’t (yet) or if it is somewhere very exotic or extremely far away from home. For example, we bought our family members souvenirs from Thailand, Asia…and that was it. HA! That makes us sound awful, but buying souvenirs can sometimes be extremely stressful, time consuming and often times expensive. Also, let’s face it, souvenirs are always WAAAY over priced and honestly…your family member or friend would probably do without the keychain that reads “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Am I RIGHT?!
When M and I started to travel, I’ve made it a priority for our “souvenir” to be an ornament for our Christmas tree. Some other ideas for displaying your travel ornaments year round are hanging them on a large cactus or indoor trees (ie: banana leaf trees) in the home. You can always put them in a display case or on shelves, dresser(s) or in book cases. The possibilities are endless, folks!
Other examples of souvenirs that are cheap and easy to find:
- matches
- post cards (I get my sister a post card everywhere we go too)
- magnets
- t-shirts
- socks
- shot glasses (we get M’s mom one everywhere we go since she collects them)
- tea towels (I also try to do this one)
- “patches” for your book bag/coat/blanket (ie: flag, monument, famous places)
- Cooking/drinking ingredients/candy authentic from where you are (ie: M brought home coffee from Columbia)
- Local money (M and I keep currency from the places we visit for M’s niece and nephew)
- Coffee cups
- Coasters
- Jewelry
- Scarfs
