South Haven, MI Weekend Getaway

South Haven, MI Weekend Getaway

Hi all! It is the week of Thanksgiving and IL has a “stay at home advisory order” which means only leaving your house for emergencies, work, groceries, MD appointments and pharmacy trips. Of course, this is not mandated since it is an “advisory” but this means I have more time to blog! YAY! What better topic to discuss than a South Haven, MI weekend getaway.

Back in September (seems like years ago when I write that haha) we decided to take a mini trip with our friends for Labor Day weekend. During September, the “stay at home order” was no longer and people could be together again (we had a limit of 10 people just to stay safe). We wanted to stay close to IL since “far travel” was still pretty frowned upon.

We decided to road trip to South Haven, Michigan. I have been to Michigan before for day trips but never for a weekend or an overnight stay. South Haven was the perfect place for us! We rented an airbnb which was in a little neighborhood with public fire pits, pool and golf carts for access to beaches, restaurants and downtown area/shops. It definitely was a gated community feel…without the gate haha ya know? Below is our cute airbnb that housed 10 adults easily (minus one couple having to sleep on bunkbeds haha but we knew that going into it)!

It was warm during the days, with a slight chill in the evenings, the weather was perfect and it was only a two hour drive (plus a time change) to get there from Chicago, IL. We ate SO much food, went to the beach one day, played card games, rented a boat with a slide off the back (HA!) another day. We all had a blast and wanted to schedule something again very soon. Which is still (hopefully) in the works, pending Coronavirus and shut downs.

I can’t post many photos due to people’s privacy BUT know that this was such a fun road trip and if you live in IL, I highly recommend a South Haven, MI weekend getaway. The boutique shops are trendy and cute, the beaches are very welcoming and large to social distance and everyone is so friendly. One thing we did not do is go out to restaurants/bars (social distancing), but I’m sure the restaurants are quite lovely when they are back to being open.

-What are some road trips you have been on lately? What road trip(s) has been your favorite?
