Hello, my friends! I know, long time no post. How is everyone doing? With the COVID-19 shelter in place slowly moving to different phases in most states in the United States, I wanted to share a long weekend getaway M and I recently had. It was a relaxing time away and I am very appreciative of the change of scenery. M and I decided to go to the Northwoods to Minocqua, Wisconsin since we were looking for a low key and relaxing trip where we could still social distance from others. We booked theeee cutest Airbnb (#farmhousecottageonlakeminocqua) on Lake Minocqua and hope to return to the same cottage in the near future. I mean, that bathroom? LOVE IT.
The night we arrived (we had to rent an SUV and drive 5.5 hours), we immediately went to get our groceries for the next couple of days and purchase our fishing gear and fishing license. We ended our night on our front porch, eating pizza and watching people take their boats out of the boat launch across the street.
Sunday we woke up and WOOOOW was it cold haha. Fifty degrees to be exact and raining. We ate breakfast at the Island Cafe (six minute walk from our cottage) while we planned our day. We went back to fish off our pier and M caught a Northern Pike!! Can you believe it was only his third cast of our trip?
We later went to a public pier on Lake Minocqua to try a new location to fish other than our own pier. We caught…nothing. Then, we decided to change our fishing location to Tropy Park and fished some at the public pier. We later went to The Minocqua Brewing Co where we tasted a couple of beers before returning to our cottage for brats and more fishing off our pier.
On Monday, we woke up and drove the Rustic Road Tour (Rt 60). It took us about an hour to do the tour round trip and I’m so glad we did it! We went to Star Lake, Saw and Planing Mills (first in Northern Wisconsin) and Old Mill Site Centennial Park. When we returned to our cottage, we decided to rent a pontoon boat (www.minocqualakeside.com) and fish on Lake Minocqua instead of piers. This is when M caught such a huge fish, but it got away and we never saw it 🙁 We closed the evening with…yep you guessed it, more fishing off our pier.
The day we left, we visited some shops in the downtown area where there were cute boutique and souvenir shops. I will write a post on one of my favorite souvenirs in the near future. As you all know, I collect christmas ornaments from all the travels and trips M and I take together. This trip I bought two ornaments, a canoe ornament because it was adorable AND I bought a northern pike ornament 😉
Overall, this mini trip was exactly what M and I needed. It was full of relaxation, rest, recharging. With all the COVID-19 shelter in places slowly easing up, I am SO glad we were able to enjoy some time away from it all and reset our minds.
Wisconsin has MANY lakes, have you been to any? Which one is your favorite? If you’ve been to Lake Minocqua, let me know other fun things we can do! We might go back in the cooler months, it’s huge on snowmobiling there and how fun would that be!?
