Weekend trip to Cancun, Mexico

Weekend trip to Cancun, Mexico

When M and I first started dating we decided to take a quick weekend trip to Cancun, Mexico. Cancun was the spot that made most sense since we only were going to be there for four short days and our flights landed late in Mexico and early in Illinois. I’ve been to Mexico before, Rivera Maya to be exact for my cousins wedding but I was a sophomore in college so I didn’t take as many photos since instagram was not a THING or actually invented yet sooo maybe I’ll go back one day so I can do a blog post on it in the future!

Since this was our first vacation and it was fairly short, we focused on relaxing at the hotel and since it was all-inclusive, we ate and drank anything/everything we wanted to. I LOVED this vacation strictly because it was new love and new adventures with someone I knew I would have so much fun with.

We stayed at the Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas. The hotel was all-inclusive (have I said that yet?), had beautiful views and access to the ocean. The weather was gorgeous every day (we visited in January) and the hotel was not too packed with visitors while we were there. The hotel was clean, air conditioned and the staff were very friendly. Below are some pictures of our stay in Cancun, Mexico.

On day three of our vacation, M and I started to look into some excursions for us to possibly do. Yes, I know I mentioned we were focusing on reeeelllllaaaaxxxiinnngg on vacation, but if you know us we like to also be busy soooo two days of relaxing was good. Ha! Anyway, we came across one of the new seven wonders of the world, The Chichen Itza Ruins. We booked this excursion (not sure through what website, I’m sorry) but it was around $100.00-120.00 per person. This included the excursion bus (huge coach bus) picking us up at our hotel bright and early (around 5am) and driving us to the Chichen Itza Ruins, a professional guided tour, lunch, and transportation back to our hotel. We were roughly gone for about 10 hours. Below are some pictures of the Chichen Itza Ruins. If you are going to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya or Tulum…it is roughly a two hour tip to/from Chichen Itza Ruins and this is a MUST to do. I am so glad we decided to look into this and explore the ruins. We loved this experience. Also, quick fun tip. If you clap your hands while standing in front of the big ruin itself, it echoes but you cannot hear it on the other side of the ruin. Very fascinating.
